SATVA FUND SRI LANKA
Providing an adequate, comprehensive and relevant education from elementary to secondary to university or vocational training remains a challenge for every country in the world, both developed and developing. In the developing country setting, in a country like Sri Lanka, the challenges remain monumental as individuals and families strive to provide their children with the best possible educational foundation so these young people can thrive. Securing a high-quality education, most often, is the only way to improve their standard of living for many vulnerable families in Sri Lanka. Satva Fund has made a concerted effort to assist in this effort through diligently reaching out to individuals and organizations to facilitate this important objective.
The Araliya Trust aims to support families whose school-age children may be in danger of discontinuing their education because they cannot meet the related financial burden. In response, Satva Fund agreed to provide a monthly stipend to ten students in different parts of Sri Lanka.
These students, ranging in ages from 10 to 22, receive stipends to assist them with essential expenditures to further their education.
Among the students supported by the Satva Fund are a 13-year-old from Deniyaya who passed the Grade 5 scholarship exam and is now at Deniyaya Central, and a final-year medical student at the University of Jaffna.
Araliya Trust has been engaged in this effort for over two decades now and carefully tracks the progress of these students through four community-based monitors.
In July 2023, Satva Fund launched an initiative to assist eight disadvantaged students to continue their education.
Four students are in secondary school (Grades 7, 10, and 11, respectively) and attend schools in Colombo and Haputale. Satva Fund monthly stipends help these students meet expenses related to transportation to school, school and tuition fees, school supplies, school uniforms, and shoes.
The other four students hail from Deniyaya, Gampaha, Bandarawala, and Ambalantota; two are enrolled in Diploma Courses in Multimedia/Graphic Design and Software Engineering, and two are enrolled at the University of Colombo and the University of Moratuwa in degree programs in Information Technology. Satva Fund stipends help them meet housing, transportation, educational supplies, living, and other essential expenses.
We track the progress of these students through periodic reports from a reliable source.
In August 2023, Satva Fund provided funds to the Drops of Light organization to partially support the educational journey of two students (both 16 years old) in Weligama and Matara scheduled to take their Advanced Level examinations in 2025.

In August 2023, a generous donor based in the United States gifted Satva Fund Sri Lanka with 10 used but very functional computers. Satva arranged for these 10 computers to be shipped to Sri Lanka, cleared and paid for at Sri Lanka Customs by a Satva volunteer and then completely refurbished with the necessary hardware upgrades and the latest software programs.
These computers were gifted to the Bataatha South Sindusara Junior School in Gurupokuna, Newton School in Dickoya, Templestowe School in Rozella and the Ambamalla Primary School in Kegalle.
Satva also provided additional support to enhance the educational objectives of this rural school
This rural school has a small library that is used by the students and teachers. When a donor gifted a selection of books and magazines (including several issues of National Geographic) to Satva in December 2023, a Satva Board Member arranged for the books and magazines (all in English) to be transported to Gurupokuna and placed in the library.
After a Satva Board member was contacted, Satva donated a projector to be used in supplementing lectures with meaningful audio visual aids at this school. Satva facilitated the purchase, delivery and installation of a projector by John Keells Office Automation (JKOA) along with an extended warranty and service plan.
